Dracaenas are a very popular plant having a tropical look with a lot of movement of the leaves with very little breeze. They have a fast growth rate and can reach heights of 10 to 12 feet in 3 to 5 years. They put out a flower from the upper stock that reminds me of baby's breath, like what you see used in flower arrangements.
These plants come in a variety of colors and styles. Green is the most common with reds becoming available in the last few years.
These plants are cold hardy into the upper teens and low twenties. However, they rarely die in the cold temperatures. The tops will die back but roots will live on and new shoots will appear either at the base or somewhere on the stalk. For a low cost plant there is a lot of potential with Dracaena.
Dracaena, Cordylines and Spikes are all the same plant, just known by regional and common names.
